I really require subtitles for all my movies because I have many family members and friends who don't speak English so Spanish subtitles come in handy! I have always been encoding my files in handbrake as 1080p but have cropped out the black bars which also messes with the resolution compared to the PGS subtitle files. I have been having this same issue but was able to find a solution (at least until it is resolved from the PMS side of things). Right now, the two simplest options are either encode everything at 1080P, which of course requires more hard drive space, or just not worry about wanting to watch subtitles for now and hope that this bug gets worked out in a future release of PMS.Īlso, is this issue only related to PMS for the Mac, or is it an issue on the other platforms as well. My question is if there is a fool proof way to resize and remux to ensure PMS displays the PSG subs correctly, or if there are plans to fix this bug within PMS. However, that doesn't seem to solve the problem and PMS still does not seem to be able to display them correctly. I've even tried resizing the subtitle stream using BDSup2Sub500 and remuxing.

Again, the Mac plex app seems to play them fine, but it must natively transcode the files itself rather than relying on PMS, as they are displayed correctly using the Mac app. I've done some testing with 1080P encodes vs 720P encodes, and yes, the subtitles are displayed correctly on the 1080P encodes when played on the Roku. I typically use the Plex app on the Roku, and again the subtitles are not displayed. The odd thing is when I play those videos with the Plex Mac application, that seems to resize and position the subtitles correctly.

Occasionally, you'll see a portion of the subtitle on screen with the video, but most of the time it is not there. As far as I can tell, when PMS then transcodes/plays a file with the subtitles enabled, the scale is off and most of the subtitles are not shown. From my research, it does not appear that handbrake resizes the PGS subtitle stream to 720P and it remains at 1080P. I generally encode my blu-rays to 720P using handbrake and include a soft PGS subtitle stream. I posted this is another topic (~PGS subtitles, 7.1 Flac) but it didn't get any replies, so I thought I'd try here.
